Fire Alarm Certification

Annual certification of multi-family residential and commercial fire alarm systems is required in accordance with Florida State Statutes, Chapter _______. These state statutes incorporate by reference the standards, regulations and requirements mandated by the National Fire Protection Association (N.F.P.A.). The certification process is defined in N.F.P.A. 72 Chapter 7 and the certification form is contained in N.F.P.A. 72 The "INSPECTION AND TESTING FORM" is to be completed in Florida by a state licensed contractor and reviewed and approved by the Authority having jurisdiction over the physical site. A certification certificate attesting to the efficient operation of the fire alarm system is posted following the completion of the annual certification process including any necessary repairs. The composition of the certificate document is defined in N.F.P.A. 72 , Figure 7-5.1 . The certificate must contain the name, address and telephone of the contractor performing the certification in order to constantly alert the consumer as to the company responsible for the safe operation of the fire alarm system. This document is an example of the consumer oriented philosophy of the N.F.P.A..

The N.F.P.A. (National Fire Protection Association) is the nationally recognized non-profit organization which develops, tests and publishes the fire prevention standards for the entire U,S. In the N.F.P.A. manuels the entire scope of the design, installation and operation of the fire alarm system is promulgated. Prior to the development of uniform national standards by this national organization, fire safety standards were often inconsisent and contractors were not licensed according to strict standards.
